Our current partners...

If you are a local authority who wants to offer this to your own residents, do not hesitate to get in touch

Why is a local authority providing energy?

We’re a partnership between Cheshire East Council and award-winning energy provider OVO Energy. We aim to offer our residents – and selected partners – gas and electricity at the most competitive and sustainable prices available, year after year.

Here are a few facts

90%

of domestic energy customers are still with one of the Big Six.

40%

of all customers have NEVER switched

10%

of households in Cheshire East are in fuel poverty

A new way of supplying energy...

...that's fairer.

We believe many residents are paying over the odds for energy as they haven’t switched for years, so wanted to offer an alternative that gave more back.

We can do this by setting up a local alternative to the Big Six, providing competitive rates and driving down prices locally.

A better deal for everyone...

By switching to Fairerpower, Cheshire and Lancashire homeowners will get competitive rates for both electricity and gas year after year, with potential savings of £178(1) annually.

An energy provider that’s here for you...

It’s not just about savings either; we pride ourselves on delivering impeccable customer service, ensuring you are always treated in a helpful and friendly manner every time you contact us. There are many other benefits and ways to save too; we offer a choice of pay monthly (fixed or variable) or pre-payment (PAYG) tariffs, 3% Interest reward on all credit balances, 33% green energy as standard and no exit fees!

Award winning customer service...

We partnered with Ovo energy as they have a proven record of providing impeccable customer service, and wanted all Fairerpower customers to benefit from this. Their Bristol based call centre has won a whole host of awards including:

  • Best Customer Service Team in Europe at the 2016 European Contact Centre and Customer Service Awards 2016
  • 'UK National Contact Centre Team of the Year' at the UK National Contact Centre Awards
  • For three years in a row Ovo topped 11 out of 12 categories at the uSwitch Energy Awards, and in 2017 they achieved a “Customer Satisfaction” score of 93% (the highest ever score in the polls 10-year history).

As a Fairerpower customer, you can be certain you’ll receive impeccable customer service and be treated in a helpful and friendly manner every time you contact us.

Why have we done this?

Fairerpower was established by Cheshire East Council as they acknowledged the rising rates of fuel poverty in the Cheshire area and the negativity around the energy industry. The council also acknowledged there was a fear around switching providers, with over 90% of the energy market taken up by the Big Six providers, and hoped Fairerpower could tackle this problem in order to save people money.

The Fairerpower scheme means that local residents now have an energy provider they can trust, one that doesn’t increase tariffs of loyal customers to entice new ones, which offers simple and clear billing and high levels of customer service.

Since the start of the Fairerpower scheme, it has come on leaps and bounds. Fairerpower is now run by Cheshire East’s, The Skills and Growth Company which has enabled Fairerpower to be offered within the wider Midland and North West region, and in future to businesses and social housing providers. Over 8000 customers have already signed up in Cheshire, who have collectively saved £2.1million on their energy bills. The scheme has now also been extended to Lancashire in partnership with Preston City Council and other Lancashire Local Authorities under the brand name Fairerpower Red Rose, meaning Lancashire residents now have access to an offering which puts them first.
